Pulled Oak - Distressed planks - Replica Vintage Oak Plank
Re-claimed Style Replica Floors
Due to our extensive experience specialising in restoration work on listed buildings and the need to address issues such as dry rot, we do not use or supply second-hand materials, as they may carry infestations. However, we offer a range of highly authentic flooring options designed to replicate the character and appearance of ancient reclaimed planks. This is achieved through specialist craftsmanship and carefully developed finishing techniques.

Our engineered floors feature veneers that are typically sawn using a traditional frame saw method. This process employs precisely spaced blades to cut the planks into veneers, followed by scrapers that remove saw marks for a smooth base.
For our distinct “pulled” oak, we utilise a unique texturing technique: the veneers are intentionally “torn” apart to mimic the deeply aged appearance of centuries-old floorboards. This rugged texture is then refined with wire brushing and abrasive pads to enhance the wood’s natural patina and character. The final appearance is achieved through a selection of finishes, including fuming, to deliver a truly authentic result.
These plank contain rustic splits and open knots accepted as part of the character.
We have installed these floors in period buildings alongside genuine aged oak floors where they did not look out of place.
Tipically used in comercial settings such as prstigiouse hotel foyers and resturants.

This flooring is specifically manufactured to look like old, character-filled wood, rather than being genuinely antique or salvaged timber. The surface is textured to enhance the authentic wood appearance, which makes it less smooth than modern, untouched wood. Irregular markings are intentionally applied using a bandsaw to mimic the effect of raw, historical milling processes, adding a rustic, man-made texture that contrasts with the wood’s natural grain.
Planks are individually distressed, often by hand, to create a plethora of unique marks, scuffs, and dings that would typically develop on a floor over many years of use. This can include techniques like tumbling edges or using hand tools.
Chemical Treatments and Oils: After texturing, a selection of chemical treatments (like fuming or reactive stains) are used to achieve specific color variations, followed by applications of protective oils, such as hard wax oils. This process provides durability, water resistance, and allows the floor to age gracefully over time with foot traffic.
In essence, the Vintage Oak Plank is an engineered or solid wood flooring option that combines modern manufacturing stability with an authentic, time-worn aesthetic, making it suitable for interiors aiming for a classic, heritage, or rustic feel.

The primary goal of the distressing process is to give the wood a time-worn, antique, or reclaimed look.
The “soft pithy grain” (the softer parts of the wood) is brushed out to create an undulating, tactile, and highly textured surface that highlights the natural grain and knots.
It is supplied either pre-finished in a range of colors (using oils or lacquers) or unfinished, allowing for custom hand-finishing on-site to achieve a specific, distinctive appearance.
