One of our chemically fumed floors from our Cathedral range.
The Bali floor is a special finish within our Cathedral range, prized for its unique, reactive colour change. This distinct effect is achieved through a multi-step process:
Chemical fuming: The oak planks are treated with ammonia fumes in a controlled environment. The ammonia reacts with the natural tannic acid present in the oak, resulting in a deep, reactive colour change.
Brushing: After fuming, the boards are machined, profiled, and brushed. This process removes the soft grain, further enhancing the wood’s natural growth characteristics.
Oil application:
◦ Coloured oil: A coloured oil is applied to create a subtle liming effect within the grain.
◦ Clear oil: A final two layers of clear oil is over-coated for durable surface protection.
Unique and natural appearance
The Bali floor is defined by its natural character and rich variations:
• Reactive colour: Because the colour is a result of a chemical reaction, it will vary naturally from plank to plank depending on the amount of tannic acid present.
• Natural features: This process allows the natural features of the oak to show through, unlike a standard stain.
• Modern look: The resulting colour ranges from a natural grey to a warm caramel, creating a classic, yet modern, and lively appearance.
