Parquetry: The Art of Hardwood Flooring
Parquetry is considered the top tier of hardwood flooring, known for its intricate patterns and inlays. While the material cost is comparable to standard plank floors, the installation is more labour-intensive.
Types of Blocks and Materials
Classic Blocks: We stock the classic 230mm x 70mm “Victorian school blocks,” which are the most familiar style.
Contemporary Blocks: For a more modern look, we also offer larger blocks in sizes 400mm x 90mm and 600mm x 120mm.
Materials: Oak is the most popular material for parquetry. Both engineered and solid blocks are available. Our engineered blocks are suitable for use with underfloor heating.
Finishing Options
Square-edged: These blocks require sanding and finishing on-site after installation.
Bevelled-edged: These blocks can be supplied either finished or unfinished, though finished blocks may not always be in stock.
Speciality Finishes:
Tumbled: A process using a machine with grit to distress and age the blocks, giving them a worn, “second-hand” appearance.
Fumed: A chemical treatment that reacts with the natural acid in the oak to create a rich, aged look.
